Privacy Policy

Last updated: June 2026.

This Privacy Policy explains how this website (an independent guide to The New York Times Learning Network’s student writing contests) handles information when you visit or contact us. We aim to collect as little personal data as possible.

Information we collect

We collect two kinds of information: information you choose to give us, and basic usage data collected automatically.

  • Information you give us. If you message us (for example, on WhatsApp) or ask about coaching, we receive whatever you send — typically your name or nickname, your grade or age range, and your question.
  • Usage data. Like most websites, we may collect anonymous, aggregate data about visits (such as pages viewed and general location) through standard web analytics, to understand what is useful and improve the site.

How we use information

We use the information only to respond to your enquiries, provide any coaching you request, and maintain and improve the website. We do not sell your personal information.

Cookies and analytics

We may use cookies and privacy-respecting analytics to measure traffic. You can disable cookies in your browser settings; the site will still work.

Sharing

We do not sell or rent personal data. We may share limited information with service providers who help us operate the site or communicate with you, and only as needed for those purposes.

Third-party services

Messaging us takes place on WhatsApp, and entering a contest takes place on the official Learning Network at nytimes.com. Those services have their own privacy policies, which govern your use of them. We are not responsible for the practices of third-party sites.

Children and young people

This site is aimed at secondary-school students (roughly ages 13–19) and their families. We encourage younger students to involve a parent, guardian or teacher when contacting us or entering a contest.

Your choices

You can ask us what information we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, or stop contacting us at any time, by messaging us through the contact channel on this site.

Changes

We may update this policy from time to time; the “last updated” date above reflects the latest version.
